About HCA:

History Comes Alive is dedicated to advancing a better understanding of history, in general, and Canadian history in particular - as seen through the eyes of the personalities who created it. History Comes Alive is a full-time endeavor, owned and operated by David Morris, a man motivated by a keen appreciation of history and drama. For 20 years, David has traveled extensively to elementary and high schools (and other institutions) throughout Ontario and eastern Canada, sharing literally thousands of dramatic monologues which are both exciting and educational.

David and company are continually working on new characters for their regular repertoire - as well as refining the existing ones. All of the characters are painstakingly researched and developed from the pages of contemporary accounts, personal journals and other primary sources - even interviews, where possible. Most of these characters are chosen for their important or representative contribution to the history of Canada, and because they hold a special fascination. During the summer and fall months, David and company can be also seen performing at, or participating in, many of the historical re-enactments being held each year throughout the Great Lakes area.

A Short History:

In 1985, at the invitation of St. Andrew's Public School in Scarborough, David Morris gave a performance as Sir John A. Macdonald to an enthusiastic group of elementary students. This would prove to be the first of countless performances given by David of famous, and infamous, Canadian personalities over the next 15 years.

By 1987, David had added four more Canadian characters to his repertoire, and was performing in schools all across southern Ontario, on a part-time basis.

In 1989, History Comes Alive became a reality, and David took on performing in elementary and high schools full-time. Over the years, David has continued to add more characters to his repertoire, such as William Shakespeare, and many well-known biblical characters.

Since 1996, people such as Jason Mills, Peter Hurley, MacKenzie Gallinger, Wolf Thomas, and Jim Welheiser have added their dramatic skills to History Comes Alive

Mission:

The mission of History Comes Alive is to enrich the quality and effectiveness of the history curriculum for elementary and high school audiences throughout southern Ontario and eastern Canada.
